Independent 20th Century: Rita Keegan OBE
We will be presenting works from the 1980's as part of a solo exhibition of Rita Keegan OBE.
Rita Keegan's Copy Art works of the 1980s exemplify a pioneering engagement with the creative possibilities of the photocopier as both a democratic tool and an artistic medium. Produced during a formative period of her involvement with London's Community CopyArt collective, these works combine photography, collage, and experimental printmaking to explore identity, memory, and representation through layered self-portraiture and archival imagery. At the intersection of feminist practice, the Black Arts Movement, and emerging media technologies, Keegan transformed the photocopier into a vehicle for radical image-making, creating works that remain remarkably prescient in their embrace of reproduction, accessibility, and self-fashioning.
